Under the initiative, District Quality Managers and Education Volunteers of Samagra Shiksha will conduct a statewide survey to identify school dropouts and children who have been absent from school for extended periods.
The survey will be conducted across the state from August 20 to September 23, with 2,862 surveyors engaged for the exercise.
The initiative will focus on facilitating the return of identified children to formal education. Depending on their individual requirements, children will be enrolled through residential and non-residential Special Training Centres (STCs) or the Open School system.
The programme seeks to strengthen efforts to identify children who have dropped out or remained out of school and help them rejoin the education system.
Through Shiksha Yatra, Samagra Shiksha will work towards ensuring that out-of-school children are identified and provided appropriate pathways to continue their education during the 2026–27 academic year.
The initiative was launched by Education Minister Ranoj Pegu at the Jyoti Bishnu Antarjatik Kala Mandir, Guwahati.
