Sonam, who had been lodged in a jail in Shillong for several months, was granted relief after the fourth hearing. The development was also confirmed by the victim’s brother, Vipin Raghuvanshi.

She is accused of conspiring with her alleged lover Raj Kushwaha to murder her husband, Raja Raghuvanshi, during their honeymoon trip.

The case dates back to May last year, when the Indore-based businessman and his wife travelled to Meghalaya. The couple arrived in Shillong on May 21 and later visited Sohra on May 26, where they went missing under mysterious circumstances.

A massive search operation was subsequently launched involving police teams, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), special units, and local volunteers.

After several days of intensive search, Raja Raghuvanshi’s body was recovered on June 2 from a deep gorge near Wei Sawdong Falls.

Police had registered a case at Sohra Police Station and carried out a multi-agency investigation. Within a week of the incident, all five accused in the case were arrested.

The case had sparked nationwide outrage due to its shocking nature. Further legal proceedings are expected as the investigation and trial continue.
