According to figures posted by Himanta Biswa Sarma on X, Assam currently operates 82 substations with a total grid capacity of 10,000 MVA and a transmission network spanning 5,300 circuit kilometres (CKM).

To meet growing demand and enhance grid reliability, the state is preparing 16 new substations that will add 6,340 MVA of capacity to the power network. In addition, 957 CKM of new transmission lines are being commissioned.

"We are striving to build Assam as an energy surplus State through accelerated investments in the power sector. We are adding more stations, more capacity and more lines to take reliable power right to your home," the Chief Minister wrote.

The expansion of the state’s power infrastructure forms part of efforts to transform Assam into an energy-surplus state. The expansion is aimed at strengthening power transmission infrastructure, reducing bottlenecks in electricity distribution and improving access to reliable power in both
urban and rural areas.
