As per the order, the move aims to bring greater transparency, uniformity, and efficiency in the approval process. The ePAAS platform will function as a unified digital interface for submission, processing, monitoring, and review of applications related to food products, ingredients, and claims.
The authority has directed that all applications for approvals, such as non-specified food and food ingredients (NSF&FI), r-PET authorisation, product claims, Ayurveda Aahara, Foods for Special Medical Purposes (FSMP), vegan endorsement, and notifications related to vitamins, minerals, and amino acids must be submitted exclusively through the ePAAS portal.
Additionally, any other food products or processes requiring prior approval under the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, will also fall under this system.
The order further states that, unless specified otherwise, application formats will remain aligned with existing regulations under the Food Safety and Standards (Approval of Non-Specified Food and Food Ingredients) Regulations, 2017.
From June 1, 2026, all such applications must be filed only via the ePAAS portal, and no manual, offline, or email-based submissions will be accepted thereafter.
